If they still have Promised Land in the shop the next time you're there, pick it up. It's a very decent progressive metal album.

Not surprised it sounds like Dark Angel. One of the band members left in the 80s to join Dark Angel.
Now playing: First Four Years - Black Flag

I´ve been listening to this one a bit more, and I must say it´s a nice comeback album. Sort of like a combination of 1988 Forbidden and 1986 Dark Angel. Definitely recommendable is you like 80s US thrash metal.

I used to have over 10,000 posts of the Metal Hammer message board. Lawson is a dick. The writers on the K! board were better (used to be a moderator and got to about 16,000 posts there...). Used to have a bit of a chat with Morat, Ray Zell, Dan Silver (he's worked for both Kerrang and Metal Hammer),, one of the guys from Onslaught (British 80s thrash band) and once had a disagreement with Barney Greenway from Napalm Death. Don't remember the subject, but his socialist tendencies were showing... And before that, I used to post on the Metal Maniacs board, where there was a guy with the classy name of Adolf Kevorkian. He was one of the guys that wasn't Seth Putnam in AxCx. Ramblings finished... Now playing: Damaged - Black Flag

The thing is out of all the USPM acts I know Iced Earth are one of the closest to the European power metal standards, especially after the first few albums. That said it's not like I haven't encountered other metalheads who don't understand that power metal isn't always the keyboard driven stuff and can in fact be quite raw and aggressive.

It was, but it's happened once now so lets not make a habit of it. As for Iced Earth, heavy metal. Which isn't actually untrue for some of their material but the way they said it was like they're heavy metal and nothing else (and especially not power metal). Of course being the young and inexperienced metalhead I was at the time I took their word for it only to realise years later that I'd been right in the first place. Very unfriendly place. I did not stay long.

I seem to remember it as a gimmich or something similar.
Sounds awful with the Metal Hammer forum. What did they think Iced Earth was?
