I didn´t initially like it when it was released, as I felt they had moved too much towards a Dream Theater influenced progressive metal sound as opposed to the more neo-classical oriented power metal style of the predecessor (which I loved at the time), but today I really like this one too. I´m glad they challenged themselves instead of releasing a clone of their famous last album.

Definitely sounds like post-2000 Symphony X, with the more brutal groove laden riff style, less use of neo-classical elements, and Allen singing in a more gruff tone. I´m not sure yet, but from my initial listen I think it sounds most similar to "Paradise Lost".
