I´m really liking Hexx a lot. It´s a relatively new discovery for me. The first two albums are US power/heavy metal and especially the first one is really great. Kind of like a more raw heavy metal version of early Queensrÿche and Fates Warning. Then they made a drastic change and became a death metal act Shocked. I don´t think I´ve ever heard of another band who took that route, but their last death metal album is really great too. Kind of technical and progressive. Definitely a band worth investigating.

If you enjoy sci-fi themed technical/progressive death metal, these Guys definitely deserve your support. Pretty great debut album this one. Bandcamp page here: http://aliveberlin.bandcamp.com/

Extreme genre switches do tend to be bands that start extreme then get more accessible. I know some where it went the other way.

According to our tagging here Satan's Host started as heavy metal, switched to black metal and now play power metal.

Cruachan always played folk metal but their first album was also very raw black metal. Then they got a female singer and changed a lot. When she left they went back to black metal again.

I´m in the process of reviewing their 1988 EP, and that´s pure thrash metal, so I guess it´s a transition from US power/heavy metal to thrash and then to technical death metal. And they play all styles really well too Thumbs Up
