I mean, I'm a huge fan of the guy ( still have some unfortunate holes in my collection, though), but that album isn't even special if you have listened to any other album he has released starting from Into the Electric Castle (the Vengeance, Bodine and first two Ayreon releases are mostly bad).

Some of those other releases sound promising, though. Thumbs Up
i listened to that album a couple months ago
its really good (and i dont even like prog)

I (obviously) beg to differ on this one. I love the mix of styles on the album and I think the main concept disc especially is a masterpiece. A great mix of prog rock, metal and folk music.

OK, serious question, have you listened to any other album by him? He has released, so far, as a solo artist (and as a collaborator):

As Ayreon (where you can find ALL of the ideas existent on this album much better presented, developed and composed in the albums parked with a *):

-Final Experiment
-Actual Fantasy
-Into teh Electric Castle*
-Universal Migrator 1 and 2
-The Human Equation*
-01011001 (Y)*

As Star One (same as above, except this project isn't as eclectic as Ayreon)

-Space Metal
-Victims of the Modern Age*

As Guilt Machine:

-On this Perfect Day

As Ambreon (basically a lesser version of Ayreon):

-Fate of a Dreamer (the only one so far I still don't have a physical copy)

With Stream of Passion:

-Embrace the Storm (he wrote many of the songs here as well)

and countless minor participation roles.

Really, in all of those there is something better and much more original than on his "solo" (because all of his projects are solo) album. It is basically a second or third-tier redux of everything he has written so far, "prog-music-wise".

Hit the 30 reviews mark today for 2012. Still a lot of heard but unreviewed albums to place though.

So I'm officially on track to hit 80 albums for the year of 2012...just thought I'd share.  Wink

When I started making lists on RYM, I thought it would be cool if this year I had a bigger list than all the previous ones, so it's kind of a silly little goal of mine.

^Yeah both are great albums. My favorite so far from the above is the new Meshuggah followed by Utilitarian and Pneuma by Hail Spirit Noir. The Agruss album also made quite an impression.

The Asphyx album is pretty good and, yeah, "Utilitarian", too, of course!

Their demo was promising and since all three tracks from the demo are also included on this debut album its no wonder the quality is high. Overall this is not really music I would put on unless I hadnt received a promo (which I have), but its mostly because of the clean vocals which I dont appreciate. I had hoped he had either stopped singing or tried a different style, but I guess that was not to be.
