Too difficult to choose, as they're both my favorite metal genres.

If the option was there, I'd pick Stoner.
I like a lot of bands with some degree of Sludge in the sound (Mastodon, Baroness, Black Tusk, Red Fang, a bit of Neurosis) and some bands with a bit of doom in the sound (Down, Sleep, Sabbath) but I'm not as keen on either of those genres as say Thrash, Stoner, Prog or Metalcore, where I like dozens of bands that are full on IN the genre. |

Chris question is not so much what you like about the genres but more what defines the genres and what differentiate them from each other. At least thatīs how I perceived his post.
Iīd say the vocals are usually very defining for sludge metal acts. Usually aggressive and shouting. Doom metal vocals can be both clean epic style singing, death metal growls or other types of singing. More variation but doom also covers much more musical ground and sub styles than sludge. Doom metal is more meandering and serious, or something like that

Doom for having the funeral doom variation. Funeral doom kinda was implemented in sludge metal with Corrupted, but they didn't really get that right until El Mundo Frio.

No, I think they have different origin. Sludge evolved from hardcore while doom evolved from heavy metal, right?
