Leviathan and Crack the Skye are better than anything Soundgarden ever did in my opinion

You're right, they made four albums that are better than Crack the Skye. (Though I do really like Crack the Skye, don't get me wrong)Also, I don't think it was completely fair for me to say Mastodon has only one masterpiece. Both Blood Mountain and Leviathan are modern sludge classics.

Soundgarden easily. Soundgarden's first 4 albums are all masterpieces, Mastodon only has one masterpiece. And that's Blood Mountain.

Mastodon is actually a pretty important band for me in the fact that Leviathan was I believe the first metal album I owned, it's the album that hooked me on the genre.

Sorry to spam this thread, but Mastodon's last 3 albums were the SH**!!!! and their other albums were good too, imo.
Let's take that into account. I love Soundgarden, but the last album they had that was solid all the way through was Superunknown, in my opinion. They had some more good tunes after it, but not a super solid album all the way through, like Mastodon. Anybody else love "The Hunter"? The song "the sparrow" is like m**hf****n heav-as* Pink FLoyd! Awwwwwhhhh B'jeah! also, I am drunk but my sentiments are fo' ril. |

i am actually surprised the votes are so close.
not surprised in regard to the the fact that they are both great bands (great rock bands), but Mastodon are waaaayy better artists in my opinion. I FREAKIN' LOVE MASTODON. but....I maintain that my opinion in this poll is OBjective. |

Don't really like many Soundgarden tracks although I have heard all their albums so Mastodon was an easy choice as I own all their albums on vinyl

As much as I like everything Mastodon has put out so far, none of their albums really grab me like Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. Mastodon has the better discography, Soundgarden has the better peak. I'll go with Soundgarden.
