1991 was the golden year of death metal. Lots of classics in the genre were released that year.

1994. Great year for black metal, Emperor - In Nighshade Ecplipse, Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Enslaved - Frost, Satyricon - Shadowthrone, Samael - Ceremony of Opposites, Ulver - Bergtatt, Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger etc etc.

Taking a glance at my computer's media player, many of my favorite albums in rock and metal came in the 1990s. I'll go with 1991.
