Everyone knows that Mike Portnoy is no longer a DT member, but they have found someone to step up to the drum throne.
The following drummers formally auditioned with the band: They are releasing footage of their auditions in episode format, and they just recently released the first part. Here's the trailer for the whole thing: |

I Hope it's Mangini or Roddy.

Hearing the first audition (Mangini) makes me feel more comfortable with him joining (and he allegedly has). The two guys I was looking forward to seeing audition were Virgil Donati and Charlie Zeleny (did not audition).

I hope it's Mangini, though I'm interested to see who was auditioning at the end of the video.

Marco was freaking amazing. I would be fine with either him or Mangini now.

My opinion is Mangini or Donati, but that may be a bit biased. I liked how Donati was putting his own flare into some of the songs, most obviously Dance of Eternity.

Mangini seems to me more the type of drummer that would be a really flawless transition for the band. He definitely appears to fit well with them and make it easy for them, and is a great personality. I really liked Thomas Lang's audition, too, although the guys from DT didn't seem as impressed with him. Virgil Donati has a weird stick style that makes him fun to watch, and plays pretty impressively. His multi-instrumentalism could be a benefit, too, when it comes to picking up on things.
Marco Minneman is a howitzer, my favourite of the bunch. Amazing player, and he looks so infectiously happy. I liked his cookie monster shirt too. If I was Dream Theater, I would pick him over Mangini, although they couldn't go wrong with either. I feel that both would be an upgrade from Portnoy That post was longer than I expected considering I don't think of myself as a DT fan. |

Wow
I wouldn't mind seeing Lang, that would be pretty cool. And I thought Roddy was quite a surprise for an audition, pretty much an extreme drummer. Edit: Actually, I'd like to see Roddy as well. Maybe push things in a different direction with him. For the record, Portnoy is good for sure, but I never heard what made him this unparalleled mind blowing drummer... Just get LaBrie replaced and DT would be awwwwesome Edited by The Angry Scotsman - 29 Apr 2011 at 2:25am |

Nice! Like I expected it. Mike Mangini fits so much with the band.

heh Russell Allen over DT? That would be beyond epic. Anyway, don't really know Mangini but I hear he's jazzier so that's good. I just wanted a drummer with a more different style because I do think DT needs to move a bit. Not leave prog metal, but some change would do them wonders. |

Nice... Either him or Marco would've been awesome, but I was pulling for Mangini the whole time...
