Sounds good, I'll go with:

Pantera - Power Metal
Voivod - Voivod

...and hope that somebody else lists Slave to the Grind Wink

I was at first going to pick Power Metal, but since some USPM was okay I had to pick Burning Star, but I'm glad you picked it! Thumbs Up

and yeah, hopefully someone picks Slave to the Grind and Symbol of Salvation.

Yeah, he basically out-Halford's Halford, such an underrated album. Have you heard The Will to Survive from the Cowboys demos? It's basically a bridge between the two albums and his vocals are incredible.

I'm not sure the whole 'not by major bands' thing is working out here. To my thinking the last four acts mentioned are all pretty major even if two of them are for their work in another genre.

Lets revert to anything goes.

If need be we'll do more than 20 albums in the list. Still maximum two albums per artist though, maybe three for the really major acts. Actually I think the fairest way to do the major acts is if everyone who wants a say picks up to three albums for each of them as well as their two normal picks and it'll be the most mentioned albums that get in. Ties get decided by MMA score.

For my money:

Iron Maiden: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Powerslave & Brave New World.

Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath, Paranoid & Heaven and Hell.

Judas Priest: Painkiller (it's in Power here, but it's obviously still okay to include), Sad Wings of Destiny & Stained Class.

I've no opinion on Motorhead or any other band. I honestly don't know how major you'd want to call Saxon and Manowar.

For my money, an album that nobody listens to from a major band fits the mood.  But if you want to do that, my major band submission is Motorhead - Orgasmatron see new post below

edit: if your intention is strictly obscure bands just say so - there's a world of difference in # of listeners between Iron Maiden and Saxon

oOPS missed this

Maiden: Iron Maiden, Killers, Powerslave
Priest: Sad Wings of Destiny, Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller
Sabbath: Black Sabbath, Vol 4, Sabotage
Motorhead: Overkill, Iron Fist, Orgasmatron

and keeping Pantera - Power Metal and Voivod - Voivod for my other 2

Hell - Human Remains
Rainbow - Rising

Iron Maiden: Seventh Son, Powerslave, Dance of Death
Black Sabbath: Paranoid, Heaven & Hell, Black Sabbath
Judas Priest: Painkiller, Sad Wings of Destiny, Killing Machine

I've got precious little Motorhead stuff, but I'll give a nod to Ace of Spades and Overkill.

Definitely shows a similar evolution in sound, both albums were probably the bands at their heaviest. Both have also always been my favorites from each as well. War for War especially is probably my favorite Motorhead song.

I've currently got down the following 11 (Mark only listed 1) albums. The current plan is to get it 20 and then add the major bands. Lets say those are just the four being voted on and anyone else is fair game to select as part of your 2.

A Sound of Thunder - The Lesser Key of Solomon
Dark Forest - Dawn of Infinity
Helstar - Burning Star
Buffalo - Volcanic Rock
Pantera - Power Metal
Voivod - Voivod
Saxon - Power and The Glory
Manowar - Fighting the World
Hell - Human Remains
Rainbow - Rising
Armored Saint - Win Hands Down

We don't have Skid Row Slave To The Grind?

How about a bit more NWoBHM?
Diamond Head - Lightning To The Nations?
Angel Witch - Angel Witch?

I'm showing my age LOL

No, but you're at least the third person to mention it along with two others. I'll include it.
