Right now, I’m listening to “Clair de Lune” by Debussy. I’ve been trying to play it on the piano, and Musicnotes has been my go-to for sheet music. Their interactive features are a lifesaver when I’m struggling with tricky sections. It’s funny because I wasn’t much of a classical music fan until recently, blame it on too many YouTube rabbit holes. Now, it’s my favorite way to unwind.

![]() Not my most anticipated album releasing today, but it'll probably stand as my favorite, because it's absolutely fantastic, super cheesy power metal from start to finish, just how I love it, lol ![]() This one has me nervous, because while I loved the first two singles, Midnight Messiah didn't really land for me, and the intro track was borderline Djent at points, and never grabbed my attention until last 90 seconds or so, which is certainly not a good sign for a DT album. Edit: Oh fuck, "Dead Asleep" also sounds like Djent. Yeah, this really has me puzzled, as to WTF they're doing, LOL

^The last two tracks pretty much saved the album for me, at least on first listen. It's weird, because tracks 2 & 3 are awesome, and the last two tracks are even better, but the intro sounded weird, and that middle stretch really needs to grow on me, badly.

I have completely the opposite reaction to the new DT. For me it's their most immediate album in years.

![]() Third listen. It already went better on a second listen, and now the intro makes more sense, as it's basically teases at bits of the rest of the album. still not sold on Midnight Messiah, so we'll see if that finally grows on me this time around, lol I will say, though: I'm not at all impressed by the garbage AI art they used for the cover, and the video of A Broken Man, and I lost all respect for Jordan Rudess recently, when he talked about how great AI is, and how people misunderstand it, so that may have clouded my jjudgement a bit on the first listen.

Yeah I don't get what the fuck is going on with the artwork here. Apparently at least one bit of interior art also rehashed from another band's album that the 'artist' did and the other group aren't best pleased as you'd expect.

Horrible artwork that one, but a lot of AI generated artwork is unfortunately gracing albums these days. In the 90s/00s it was the whole photoshop thing which went overboard. There are so many other more tasteful ways of creating cover artwork. It may be more expensive, but it looks so much better with a real painting/drawing or a real picture.

Yeah, they really need to find a new artist for future albums, because Hugh Syme just doesn't have it anymore, lol
The album itself is officially growing on me, though, and at the very least, I like it more than their last two. Still not as mucha s The Astonishing (which will likely never be surpassed, lol), but possibly on par with the first two Mangini albums, which are both albums I'd rank fairly high.

I mean I don't hate the actual picture. I think DT themselves have far, far worse cover artworks. It's just really the whole process of using AI...fans of so many bands are letting them know they don't like it but it's as if the room isn't being read.
