https://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/powerwolf/return-in-bloodred Presuming this to be one of those 'haven't found their sound yet' debuts. Not exactly what I was expecting, but listenable.

^Yeah, they started finding their sound on their second album, mastered it on Bible of the Beast, and then pretty much kept doing the same thing over and over afterward, lol
But yeah, both in terms of style and overall sound quality, their debut is definitely the odd one out in their discography, and I think it's their only album I could only put myself through once.

I've actually heard one of their albums (Preachers of the Night) in full prior to this - even reviewed it - but never really followed them beyond that. They've long been on my list of group's to explore. So next up: https://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/powerwolf/lupus-dei Random aside: I have a Blind Guardian CD that had its liner notes get mixed up with a Powerwolf album partway through the booklet which is probably the most overt misprint release in my collection, although I understand every copy of that particular pressing is just the same so its probably not rare or anything.

I need to listen to these guys more, they have a very creative sound...like a mix of old school death metal and modern tech-death. I've never heard anything like it. Edited by Psydye - 22 Sep 2024 at 4:10pm |

I agree. Defiled is a pretty unique death metal act. All their releases are worth checking out.

Earlier:
https://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/bloodbath/the-arrow-of-satan-is-drawn My tastes in death metal usually veer towards the tech/prog and a bit of melodeath but I quite appreciate Bloodbath. And they've been fronted at different times by both Mikael Ã…kerfeldt and Nick Holmes, whose usual bands happen to be two of my favourites.

https://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/frozen-crown/war-hearts I usually ignore streaming only promos and always did even when I was reviewing more...frankly I think it's a bit of a middle finger to the reviewer to not allow downloading of the material. This one I'm making an exception for...which is not a guarantee that I'll write about it since I hardly ever do that now. Honestly surprised anyone still keeps me on their promo list after all these years.
