^ Yes, I'm surprised it didn't get in actually as I think it's fairly highly rated around here.

That Argus album is bloody good. Another one that drew a short straw in my 50 though.

^ I had Iconoclast just above the middle of my list, it's a great album.

I could pick loads off my list that I would have liked to have seen get some recognition - 26 approx I voted for didn't get a place but some were pretty obscure so hardly surprising. Picking a few though....

Underworld made the chart, but I don't know that one as well as this, which I just managed to pick up cheap recently for the 2CD version. I hadn't gone back to this one for years after it came out, but I'm really digging it this week. Might be a rating upgrade coming. I should also listen to Underworld again.

Really unique sludge metal that utilizes haunting and ghostly ambient blended with great riffs and eclectic vocals. This is no boring post-metal, this is pure sludge that just happens to be very atmospheric.

One of the best albums by the best death metal band.

First time I've heard nu metal mixed with folk metal, and it works great. Their 2019 album is good too, and goes even further with the folk metal.

Pure thunderous sludge heaven.

There's obviously more, but there's just a few.
If I say fuck two more times that's forty-six fucks in this fucked up rhyme

I'd hoped Kentucky would make the top 100 list too. It's interesting to see that Metallica was outside the top 50, Megadeth and Slayer didn't even feature, but Anthrax, often the most derided of the Big 4 made it to 37.

It's just the nature of the users of this site, but power metal, and proggy and technical shit always dominate, but I must say I was really happy to see Iron Maiden came out as number one (if it had been Opeth I may have gone into mourning...Wink). It shows the quality of the band that they can still produce something 35 years after their debut which STILL appeals to a wide range of metal fans.

As for albums which I wish had made the list:

I think Porky Vagina's pornogrind origins may have counted against them, but this is a genuinely entertaining album, which more people would appreciate if they would just listen to the damn thing!

I don't remember everything I put on my list, but I do believe I forgot to add this to it... Similar to Porky Vagina, it's comedy grind, but this time it parodies a number of well known bands, as wide ranging as Rammstein and Entombed.

And I think I forgot about this too...

Once you get past the granny gimmick, it's really fucking solid.

I agree on the Star One album: I must have completely forgot it when I made my list, because it's a definite favorite.

Ignoring my more obscure power metal stuff, here's some others I'm not seeing on our list, that I wish could have made it:

I know The Holographic Principle made it, and i did vote that one highly as well, but I always slightly preferred The Quantum Enigma, and think of it as their all time best.

This one, I probably should have ranked higher myself, as it's a definite favorite, but I guess ranking it against 49 other albums is a tough task. That, and Epica seems to get all the attention (deservedly so, obviously) while MaYan seems to fly under the radar, despite also being fantastic.

I'm a bit surprised none of their albums made it in, as they've been on quite a strong run as of late. This is probably my favorite they released this past decade, but The Pagan Manifesto is also high up there. (Oh, I never even voted it myself. That's weird, but I guess it got lost in the shuffle, LOL)

Another one I personally overlooked, LOL My favorite tech death album, probably ever, and this band is easily my favorite in the genre, at this point.

Acouple more that didn't get the love their deserve. Including from me. I can barely remember what made my final list and what didn't already, but there were too many that couldn't help get shafted.

For me Cruachan's second best album. Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was as the prior one wore a little thin over time.

Not much love for my long standing avatar. I probably should have given it more points myself, then I'd be talking about a different release here today.

Now here's one I didn't vote for, perhaps should have done, but again, 50 releases max and I didn't get around to playing this one again while we were voting. But it's another damn fine power metal album that serves some attention.

This one gained over a 100 points in the vote, but not enough to get it into the top 100. With prog having a good showing in the 2010s I'm surprised this didn't climb higher.

Wolfchant's best album. Putting the extreme into power metal. Wish it got more recognition.

To be continued...

I thought I'd highly a few releases that I'm disappointed missed out on our top 100 now. Some of those will perhaps be because there were so many good albums that I personally could have voted for that these ones drew the short straw and there's also some I've only discovered more recently that I didn't have time to digest properly to vote for. Anyway, enjoy. And please also post the releases you're disappointed never made it.

In no special order:

I only picked up this very recently. In fact I didn't own any of Ihsahn's solo albums until recently, though I had heard the early ones a while ago. I've been really getting into his solo work lately, but not in time to revise my list to include this album, which I personally think is superior to After.

Many of my favourite power metal albums of the 2010s made it into the best of decade, but not one of the oldest ones that's had many plays. Considering it still sits on top of my 2012 list on RYM I probably should have given it more points myself, but that just goes to show how hard it was to rank a total of 50 albums from across ten years.

Perhaps overshadowed by Ayreon's The Source by Lucassen's 2010s output, and it certainly drew a short straw in my personal submission to the vote despite being my top 2010 album at the time of release, but I am surprised no one sent any points the way of Victims of the Modern Age.

The subject of an MMA reviewer's challenge some time ago, I'm sad that this somewhat unique blend of atmospheric BM with bluegrass songs didn't make the cut, though it did claw 93 points total.

I could easily put all three Paradise Lost albums of the 2010s here, but this one has ended up my personal favourite of their three offerings for the decade. It gained a respectable 109 points. Tragic Idol and Medusa fell short at 6 and 32 points respectively.

One of my favourite folk metal albums of the 2010s. I really wish I'd been able to give it more points myself, but there were too many damn fine albums to try and rank.

to be continued...
