Out of all metal subgenres, BM is the one i'm least familiar with. Could someone suggest a few good symphonic black metal bands (I'm a huge fan of symphonic metal), that i should check out?

Well Dimmu Borgir is the most obvious choice: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/dimmu-borgir.aspx?ac=dimmu borgir

I remember some of Old Mans Childs albums being symphonic too: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/old-mans-child.aspx?ac=old

Dimmu borgir,Old man's child(Galder's black metal project),Pensees nocturnes and Dragonlord(good power/black metal band).
Inexistence is the true normality.

Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk by Emperor is a must have for anyone interested in black metal whatsoever. The other Emperor albums are great as well. And if you want a more experimental avant-garde edge to that symphonic metal, you can check out the vocalist Ihsahn's solo work.

Not symphonic, but if you're trying to ease into black metal then Enslaved's latest album Axioma Ethica Odini is very melodic and easy to get into for black metal, and it's a fantastic album as well.
Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Thanks for suggestions, guys. I have decided to start with Dimmu Borgir and Immortal. I'll also listen to Emperor. I might check Enslaved as well,  but if I'm not mistaken, their music has strong elements of folk metal, which is not my thing. But who knows, i might like them.

I highly recommend Carach Angren if you want symphonic BM

Not so well known, but they're one of my favourite black metal bands.

I am not so familiar with Black Metal in general, but I know some bands that might fit your taste. This is a band from Finland and their name is Catamenia.

Chthonic are pretty good, but I've only heard one album by them.

Another recommendation for symphonic BM would be Saille (http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/saille.aspx). Their first album isn't out yet though, but they have one song on their YouTube account which I added to the videos section of their MMA page. Highly recommend them. Best 2011 album I've heard so far.

There is a band called Vinterfrost, but I have not listened to a song yet, but saw some positive reviews.Maybe, Siebenbrgen might be also interesting for you. I would call them the Theatre of Tragedy of Black Metal.

Listen to any album from Isa and onwards and I dont think youll find that many folk elements. Youll find plenty of elements from seventies progressive/ psychadelic rock though.

You guys are great! :D
Especially those of you who mentioned Old Man's Child. I listened to some of their songs on youtube and they really impressed me. I will surely listen to some of their albums.

Try also the Norwegian band Antestor especially from their album The Forsaken. Also listen to Falkenbach's song Laeknishendr and the song Odemarkens Son by Vintersorg.

Other bands:
Obsidian Gate
Carpathian Gate
Summoning
Tribes of Cain
