I don't think you have to warn fans of doom metal that something is a slow burn LOL

You might be onto something there Wink

Can I assume you know Asunder? Looking at your tastes their second album might be your bag - drummer from Dystopia and the guitarist from Weakling.

You should all check out Acid Witch.  A very interesting stoner metal band with death growls.  Surprised they weren't on the archive before I added them. http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/acid-witch--mp3.aspx?id=2504

Not a huge fan of the genre but I am a huge fan of a few doom metal bands.

Namely Candlemass, whose first 4 are essential albums for the fans imo, especially Epicus, Doomicus, Metallicus and Nightfall. I'm a fan of Chapter VI as well, great power/doom and of the comeback stuff.

Secondly, Solitude Aeturnus. A Texas based band, it features one of my favourite voices in metal ever, Robert Lowe (who now fronts Candlemass as well). Their entire discography is GODLY. A bit of caution is needed with Downfall, which finds them a bit experimental but still heavy as fuck. First three are considered their most classics, I would also add Adagio to the list (which also contains a stellar edition of Sabbath's Heaven and Hell).

Memento Mori, Cathedral, Memory Garden, Trouble are all A-OK in my book as well (esp. the first two).

Im more or less a Trouble worshipper. I saw the video for Memorys Garden:

...back in the early nineties and got hooked from there...but its only recently Ive checked out the first three "really" doomy albums by the band. Especially:
.. Album Cover
and
.. Album Cover

kicks some serious ass, but:
.. Album Cover
Aint too shabby either.

They play a really cool and varied mix of doom metal and traditional heavy metal on those first three albums that greatly appeals to me. "Manic Frustration" is still my favorite though (first loves and all):

I love the way the band incorporated Beatlesque psychadelia into their sound from the early nineties onwards.

I know I've been raving about Esoteric's The Maniacal Vale in the past, but now that I have the album, it just won't stop.  I've put up an mp3 so that other people can take note:   http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/esoteric--mp3.aspx?id=2758

What's clear to me now is that Dopethrone is Electric Wizard's only album worth owning.  The two before it were a Cathedral clone for the first album and an attempt to do a dry run for Dopethrone in the second album, and all the ones after seem to be trying (unsuccessfully) to live up to it.

Monolithe with their albums Monolithe I and II. If you have 102 minutes to spare.

I've already reviewed the first and have the second on CD.  The first one is the superior one in my eyes and I'll get a proper review of the second one up eventually.

Also, here's another Esoteric mp3 for everyone:

Im working my way through them, so Im interested to know if I feel the same.
