Though this suggestion might get some heat from some on the boards others may agree with me that though they are normally grouped into the Classic Rock/AOR genres, I personally feel that they were hugely influential in the metal world as they helped pioneer the twin-guitar harmony format that Maiden and Priest would popularize just as much as Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash(who are both included) did.

I could maybe see this, but I also see Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash as being closer to metal than them.

I understand what you're saying (and I've thought about their inclusion before), but I'm not sure if they belong. Definitely a borderline case IMO.

I rarely hear of Boston connected to metal, nor would I connect them to metal.  I'd need some more convincing, other than the fact that no matter what the label, More Than A Feeling is just plain awesome LOL.

In my unbiased opinion: They are a borderline case, and there are far more bands that need to be added before Boston.

In my biased opinion: They have influenced just about as much metal as any given 70s rock band. Which is practically none. They really have nothing more to do with metal than the next band. I'd give it a definite no.
Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

I can kinda see this....but I personally have to say no.

Boston was, of course, amazingly awesome none the less!
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

We're currently discussing it in the proto-team. Given that it is a borderline case and, by zdunne's own admission, a controversial one, I cannot say when we will reach a conclusion.

In my opinion Boston formed too late to be considered proto metal, but obviously, all suggestions will be considered on their own merit.

To put Boston in context, the proto team have just rejected a magnificent band called Alkana, simply because their only album was released in 1978.

It's under consideration for Traditional, but it's a tough call - anyone familiar with this awesome band?

Boston for proto? Really? They released their debut album in 1976 if i remember right so there's nothing proto about them.

Boston is just a melodic hard rock band, there's nothing metal about them IMO. Very good band surely but not on a metal site, they don't belong here.

Boston is classic AOR.  I love Boston, but I think that adding them would set a dangerous precedent, unless we were to add AOR to the Traditional metal genre, in which case you will also have to consider adding Night Ranger, Journey, Styx, Toto, REO Speedwagon, etc...  Now saying that, I do seem to remember that my first review on MMA was for a Night Ranger album. Hmmm.

Night Ranger does not belong on MMA either.

Night Ranger are included in Glam Metal.  I'd say that they reside on the AOR/Metal borderline, but mostly AOR.

I would say no. I LOVE Boston...a lot. But, aside from the harmonized guitars, there's no attitude...Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash had attitude. Boston is SO melodic and SO pop-oriented in their melodies that I think that would exclude them from Proto-Metal.

If you're going to include Boston for guitar harmonies, you may as well include Journey for high-pitched vocals...

I'm not really into Boston, the only albums I have heard are "Third Stage" and" Walk On", so I don't know how much I can offer.

This one I can't really see. More of a prog-related band than a metal-related band, and far less a proto-metal band. I could ALMOST almost almost see it. But VERY borderline.

Massive super ultra bump. I think they fit Hard Rock perfectly. I'll give to them.
