Going through the memberlist by date is somewhat disturbing. It's like 9 out of every 10 accounts have been suspended because they're spambots. I had no idea this was such a problem!

I kept the one in the press releases section. Second person we've had doing this multi-posting lark this week. 
Yes, we definitely need some sort of anti-spam measure installed here. The network my site Heavy Metal Haven is on used to have this problem as well, then they did something about it and we have not had a single spambot since.

As far as I remember you have a insert a code of sorts in Heavy Metal Haven. lots of sites use this measure with great success.

better than a "capcha" thing, which often give you ridiculous characters you can't make on keyboards, would be some kind of question requiring comprehension, maybe relating to the site
