I just found this one and I think it´s a bit of a gem. I knew about Dead Eyed Sleeper and I´ve listened to some of their previous releases, which are also decent, but this one is special to my ears: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/dead-eyed-sleeper/gomorrh https://deadeyedsleeper.bandcamp.com/album/gomorrh

New project from Kelly Shaefer (Atheist): https://blabbermouth.net/news/atheist-frontman-kelly-shaefers-till-the-dirt-announces-debut-album-outside-the-spiral ...and it´s produced by Scott Burns . I guess it´s not exactly straight up death metal, but that´s also the case with Atheist so no surprises there. I look forward to listening to the full album. Edited by UMUR - 02 Jul 2023 at 12:28am |

^I had forgotten all about the existence of that band, and I haven´t heard anything from them or about them since I reviewed their 2010 "Murderer"album. Now I see that they´ve actually released three albums since . It´s disappointing to me that it´s so hard to follow the Danish underground. I try to read as many reviews as possible but this is slipped past me. I think I´ll dig into this.

...and if I have to flag my Danish flag I can also recommend Konkhra - Sexual Affective Disorder. I´m usually not that impressed by death metal from my own country, but this one is a personal favorite that I wish many more people would listen to and appreciate. I´m not a huge fan of the rest of their releases, but this one is special.

If I have to compliment the list you have already made I´d recommend the following (there are of course a lot I´ll forget but I´ll do my best ) You´ve got the first three Death albums on the list, and they are of course mandatory listens if you want to understand the history of old school death metal (and the development of the genre). So far...so good. US: Possessed - Seven Churches (I´m not that familar with it really, but many cite it as the first death metal release, so I guess it´s one of those albums you have to have heard before you die). Deicide - Deicide Cannibal Corpse - Eaten Back to Life Obituary - The End Complete Immolation - Dawn of Possession Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten Incantation - Onward to Golgotha Autopsy - Severed Survival and Mental Funeral Massacre - From Beyond Sweden: Entombed - Left Hand Path and Clandestine. Very different sounding albums, but both are great. Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream Carnage - Dark Recollections Unleashed - Where No Life Dwells Grave - Into the Grave Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence God Macabre - The Winterlong Gorement - The Ending Quest Edge of Sanity - Unorthodox (I love Nothing But Death Remains too, but Unorthodox is really something special). Therion - Beyond Sanctorum Norway: You have the first Darkthrone on the list, and that´s certainly a classic Norwegian old school death metal release. I´d recommend Cadaver too. The Netherlands: Gorefest - False Pestilence - Consuming Impulse Asphyx - The Rack Sinister - well...everything but "Creative Killings" and "Savage or Grace". I think the rest are damn brilliant death metal. Belgium: Aborted - from "The Archaic Abattoir" onwards. Germany: Morgoth - while Odium is my personal favorite, it´s the two early EPs and Cursed that you want if you want to listen to some great old school death metal. Atrocity - Hallucinations Fleshcrawl - I love the debut album, but I can´t say I find the rest of their discography that interesting. Finland: Xysma - Above the Mind of Morbidity and Yeah. Sentenced - Shadows of the Past and North from Here (the latter is an absolutely brilliant release). Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus and Tales from the Thousand Lakes. UK: Bolt Thrower - War Master and The IVth Crusade Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness, Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious, and Heartwork Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption Benediction - The Grand Leveller Cancer - To the Gory End

^ Where to start? So many great death metal albums. I've been revisiting a lot of Vader lately who rarely make bad albums and you can't go far wrong with Immolation if you enjoy a bit of dissonance. Less known but always deliver - Vredehammer and Jungle Rot (simple but effective). One of the best death metal albums of last year was Undeath - It's Time... to Rise From The Grave.

Well any recommendations really. I know a few of those though it's been a while since I heard any of them.
Here's everything I've rated on RYM in the genre already, sorted by age: A few of these I intend to revisit and see if my opinion has changed.

With Seagrave covers? Well...some of the obvious ones would be: Entombed - the first two albums Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream Monstrosity - Imperial Doom (not my favorite but it´s got a Seagrave Cover) Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients Invocator - Weave the Apocalype Nocturnus - The Key Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten Malevolent Creation - The first three albums. Morbid Angel - Alters of Madness Desecrator - Subconscious Release Carnage - Dark Recollections Gorguts - Considered Dead But those are just a few of them. Seagrave has created many more.

The green cover here was one of his first album covers. Discogs has a fair list.

Then you´ll have plenty to pick from. Seagrave has created many, many, covers for death metal artists.

I've been in quite the death metal mood lately. It's really hitting the spot right now even while I'm being floored by new prog and power metal albums.
Mostly been listening to tech death but I've also checked out a couple of older releases: You might say I'm drawn to albums with Dan Seagrave art.

The new Vomitory I posted above will probably be more to your liking then Jonas. I know what you mean though, not everyone loves this sort of death metal. Personally I love it!

I´m probably going to to check this one out, but I can´t say I´m a big fan of their sound. I´m not huge on the whole chaotic tech sound. I usually like my death metal a little more catchy and immediately punchy.
