I can understand and with the new album The Roads Leading North being in progressive metal, but surely the previous work is definitely more based in death metal? |

Like many bands, opinion on placings varies between collabs and between members. I too would place the first two albums in death metal with the latest in prog. I'd also place other bands in different subs too. But the majority view here (including people from the death metal and prog metal teams) is different from mine, and I have to respect their expertise. RYM for what it's worth has death and prog equal for the first two releases.

I actually agree with Cat, but the long and the short of it is that the death metal team preferred LS under prog, which wasn't wrong either. So to prog they went.

I see, I just thought I'd mention it. Seems strange to me but I guess it's not incorrect to have them under prog either.

Of course should the death metal team ever change their mind they're quite welcome to have them back.
![]() Except The Roads Leading North of course. That one definitely stays where it is.

Like Crimson by Edge of Sanity, I feel Lascaille's Shroud is way too advanced and eclectic, to be tagged death metal. I´d still put the progressive metal tag on those releases, even though it´s of course and extreme type of progressive metal.

I understand, though I don't follow this example. Crimson is tagged as death metal. http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/edge-of-sanity/crimson |

The irony here is that Crimson used to be in prog metal but the team later decided they preferred it under death metal.

Can death metal not be complex and eclectic? Just a question. I guess the degree of eclectism might determine placement.

It can certainly be both complex and eclectic, but to my ears Lascaille's Shroud incorporates a lot of other influences to their sound to make it more than "just" death metal. Believe me I´m not usually thrilled to see death metal artists in progressive metal, but this is one of those cases where it makes sense. However if the consensus is that they belong in death metal, I wouldn´t mind if they were moved. My personal opinion is just that I think they belong in progressive metal more than they belong in death metal.
...and about the Crimson story, I didn´t realize it had come back to death metal. I guess it´s more of a 50/50 case. Personally I think I´m a bit indifferent.

My pennies worth as a member of neither team would be that while Jonas is right to say that those albums are more than just death metal, I think they are still very much rooted in death metal. Personally I would move them.
Can't speak for the new album as I have still not got around to streaming it. |

I think that most here seem to think they belong in death, myself included. I do not personally think they are wrong in prog either and have always respected Jonas' decision for the death metal team not to have those albums - I know his views on the status of progressive death metal so if he says they are too progressive for death I'm inclined to take him at his word despite my own feelings towards the albums. So what happens to those albums now is entirely up to Jonas and the rest of the death metal team. So long as no one swipes The Roads Leading North, which is a very different beast to either of the Interval albums, from prog, I am not fussed either way.
