I made a new metal/hard rock challenge based around the 1980s.
I got 78/250.

Lots of death metal. Checked out a few classic bands I haven't really paid attention to before.

Roots still sucks, but I've played all my Sepultura albums again now (except Blood Rooted) plus others off Spotify and decided to see if my opinion had changed. It hasn't.

^ Only 15 for me. Really shows the gaps in my black metal knowledge.

I got four, and don't have much desire to explore any further. That really is a fucked list. Immortal is the only one of the usual suspects I spotted there.

Took a little break from this series, but here's the black metal one.
As always though, a few glaring omissions. 35/100

RYM are worse than philistines. What a shitty list! (I got 23 by the way) I don't get the fucking obsession with melodic or technical death metal. And fucking Enemy of the Music Business? That doesn't belong there. !T.O.O.H! is doubtful too.

Death Metal: https://www.listchallenges.com/metal-is-alive-the-best-death-metal-albums
For my money, the best death metal album ever made was released since 2000, but it's not on here because RYM'ers are philistines. Actually there are a lot of damn good DM albums that haven't made the cut or indeed have their artists featured at all. Instead there's quite a lot I've never even heard of. I guess I'll have to let those of you who listen to more death metal than I do judge the quality of this selection. I got 20/100.

4/100, which is at least twice as good as I thought I'd do. I generally avoid power metal on purpose.

Next genre up is power metal:
Doesn't intentionally include USPM but RYM is a bit of a mess in that regard due to adding that tag far too late in the day. At least it will only be USPM albums RYM'ers deemed to pass muster for power metal, since this is a Euro style list. Like the last one, I would have picked some different albums and also got a few here ranked lower down that deserve to be higher, but the data is what it is. 42/100 for me.
