You're missing out, Colin and Paul
Patrick - "It also surprised me there was absolutely no stage banter" that was the same on Thursday. The lights dimmed after every song. Apparently it is deliberate to add to the theatrical vibe of the show (or so some pundit suggests). There was no encore either as such. Alice addressed the crowd for the first time at the end and asked whether we wanted one more song. And then broke into a cracking rendition of Schools Out, complete with audience participation and a segway into "Another Brick In The Wall". Awesome.

Y' know, I think I'm one of the very few people that can't stand Pink Floyd. I don't mind the first 2 albums w/ Syd Barrett too much but after that they mostly lose my interest.

I'm not a fan. They're my Dad's favourite band, but I could never get them. I find a lot of their music quite boring, mournful and depressing. I do like the song Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, but it's about the only one. And I'm honestly rather listen to Kylesa do it in a much heavier version. You and I are probably going to branded as prog heretics now.

Yep...heretics you both ... Definitely one of my favorite bands from the 60s/70s. Not everything they released was equally great, but it´s one of the band´s I always seem to return to when I just want to listen to something pleasant and warm, which is still challenging and varied. |

I'll admit, SOMETIMES I have an itch for Dark Side of the Moon, though
that's a rare occasion. When it comes to spacey psych prog, I tend to
prefer stuff like Ozric Tentacles.

Spookily I went watching a tribute band Aussie Pink Floyd last night. They’re the band that Gilmour booked to perform at his 50th birthday party. They were immense. Of course if you don’t like psych space prog (or Floyd) you’d have hated it

My Dad went to see the Aussie Pink Floyd band last week. I think it was the second, maybe the third time he's seen them and he's always rated them highly.

One prog band I absolutely LOVE though is Kansas! Their first 5 albums are just amazing! Very proggy but also very catchy and soulful. I'll take Kansas ANY day over bands like Pink Floyd or even King Crimson or Genesis...pure heresy, I know!

I can appreciate Kansas to an extent, but there´s something about that distinct American whiny way of singing that I just can´t stand, and as great as they can be just as awful and sirupy they can be too. I guess the lyrics often put me off too. They have an AOR edge to them and that´s definitely not my poison. Great musicians though and I´m actually currently listening to an re-writing all my Kansas reviews. I´ve only posted my review of the debut so far though, and in the process of writing a review of the second album.

^Yeah, that's understandable...admittedly I'm not always hot on their lyrics too. We've all got our poison though...nothing wrong w/ that.

Which is the right choice?
If they're anything like our political parties neither of them is a 'good' choice.

I must admit that the results from last night have left me feeling a tad uncomfortable.

Yeah I hear ya. VERY disappointed w/ the American people! Maybe I'm being cynical but this country's gonna go down hill real fast. Well, it was nice knowing ya, democracy.

Hopefully his more authoritarian instincts will be reigned in, but control of the senate will help him.
Things go in circles. You guys will get through this fine, I've no doubt

Just remember: he can't run for a third term.
If he's even still alive at the end of this term. The man is 78. It's not a given.

I feel for ya. Our government in New Zealand lurched to the right last year and things have been kinda shit since then. Luckily we only have a three year term, and this lot is gonna get dumped after one term.
And hopefully Peter Thiel is too busy causing havoc the US and doesn't come back to New Zealand again.

New Opeth album drops today and despite having it on pre-order for over two months and being a Prime customer Amazon has let me down.
Meanwhile, pirates have been listening to it for days judging by the amount of ratings RYM has for it already. Ever feel like the system is rigged?

I´m looking forward to listening to the album, but I´ll probably give myself some time to feel the album before writing about it...or maybe not. I usually write fast and while listening...then re-listen and read my review again to see if I still feel the same...and that´s it. Sometimes I return to an album after years of not listening with a new view on it, but most of the time my initial review of an album is still valid even after many years. ...is the system rigged? I don´t know...I guess I just don´t care enough that I have to listen to something the first day it´s released.
