It's awful.  Since Saturday I've had a dull pain in my chest, but it wasn't anything major so I figured I just yanked something lifting weights.  But of course I had to wake up at 4 in the morning today with a terrible shortness of breath, so I go to the ER and they took x-rays, heart scans, blood tests, etc. Then they tell me to wait for an hour and a half while the run the tests, so I'm sitting there watching the TV with 30 channels (and early morning programming-yuck) with the IV stuck in my arm.  Then they come back and tell me everything is fine and the only thing I can do is take deep breaths and hug a pillow for a splint until the inflammation dies down.

Conveniently, finals are next week.  Damn it.

Super early morning ER visits are no fun at all :( How long is it supposed to last?

That's the thing: they don't know.  It's usually caused by an infection or a virus, but the blood work and x-ray didn't catch either, so they're assuming that it is indeed a muscle strain (leading to inflammation) that's causing my symptoms.  That's apparently tricky to diagnose, as it depends on the severity of the inflammation (different in every case), so basically all I have to do is lay around, take deep breaths so I don't get pneumonia, and pound myself with ibuprofen until my chest stops hurting and I can breathe properly  again.

If anything, the two things I'm worried about are not being well enough to take my finals next week, and that I'll get a lousy night's rest because my subconscious is taking shallow breaths, not deep ones.  Although those are small problems to have compared to a faulty heart or a collapsed lung.

It's time like these when you realize just how bad most of the stuff on TV is...

Last year I went into the ER because of severe pain in my lower right abdomen and they found nothing in the blood work or CT scan. :\

Luckily there was a Psych marathon the next day.

Why most forums state that bitching about locked threads is a bannable offence.

It's really frustrating when they do all of those tests and still can't find anything wrong.  You'd expect that an emergency room staff would have every answer to every medical ailment ever, but sadly that's not the case.

Went out looking for a new car today and found this one:
Economic, relatively cheap ( were talking Danish car prices so even such a small car is extremely expensive for regular folks like myself) and they offered a pretty good price for my old car, so Im pretty content right now. Ill give it some thought over the next couple of days and see what my mind decides. My old car is this one, but its from 1997 so its pretty worn, and I think now is a good time to sell it:

Well...depends on what big meansBig smile. I guess it shows that I once liked beer a lot and still like food a little too muchLOL. If you mean tall Im 1,78. My wife is only 1,56 so we are not the tallest or most long-legged people in town.

...and remember we pay like 25% of the cars value in taxes alone, so cars are really expensive in Denmark. Weve been saving for this car for 5 years, so we dont have to loan money from the bank.

Definitely.  I went to an internist today and actually got a diagnosis-who would have thought?  Of course the general information was the same (rest, deep breaths, ibuprofen, more rest, water, lay around, etc.) but this guy made it seem like the ER people didn't know anything at all.

I guess the lesson learned here is that doctors are not encyclopedias, and it may take a bunch of different visits to find the right specialist.  Oh, and that pleurisy is caused by a random virus on which there is no information and no immediate cure (apart from what Jonas mentioned, that is).  Tongue

In the UK car related  tax = road tax, fuel and oil taxes, value added tax, insurance tax and MOT without mentioning the huge depreciation.

For the average 100 tank of fuel 2/3rds is tax Angry

Its about time cars driven by other energy sources than gas are introduced on a grand scale. There have been a couple of futile efforts in Denmark but I havent seen anything really interesting yet.

Well there are, just look at the huge electric car explosion...more and more car manufacturers have electric cars available in their dealerships. The problem is that the retail is huge (40Gs for a Chevy Volt? Seriously?).

(still, given that most electricity in Europe comes from COAL, it'd be quite awful for the environment...)
