My second listen to Rage for Order didn't really do anything to change my mind about it, to be honest. It's good but I don't see it being an album I'll pull off my shelf too often. I expect I'll still try out Mindcrime though, probably sooner rather than later now and probably The Warning as well.

I personally wouldn´t mind the first three Fates Warning albums moved to US power, but it´s not my decision to make.

I remember shifting both down to US Power when the sub was added, but I haven't tried them yet. A lot of acts usually counted as USPM are on the site but in other subs, including Queensrÿche, but so far only ones that were already in power have been moved. I have no problem moving early Queensrÿche there, though I personally feel a bit stronger about early Fates Warning after hearing Awaken the Guardian.

I just remembered that I thought of a couple of other recommendations for you in that genre. Heir Apparent and Lethal.

Yeah there's certainly the same kind of melodic element there that Crimson Glory has and their debut at least is often included in USPM lists.

Kind of proggy in Places, but US power wouldn´t be wrong either IMO. The same with the debut.

But Queensrÿche was never an overtly progressive act. Even their most proggy tracks aren´t exactly "Dream Theater prog metal". It´s melodic US power with proggy leanings.

I'm actually wondering if Rage for Order even belongs under prog metal here, after hearing it.

It didn't exactly blow me away on first listen, but maybe it'll grow on me.

Rage for Order's a great album, has a cool futuristic atmosphere to it. Definitely not a bad start. Thumbs Up

I personally don't like either album or band.  Not my cup of tea.
Be excellent to each other.

Have you heard any Queensryche? Shocked

No.

That just made the whole thing sound even worse didn't it?

Not really sure why and I acknowledge I'm probably missing out on an essential release or two, but they've always been a band I've never felt inspired to check out. One day I will probably change that and most likely kick myself, but when that will be I have no idea.

If you enjoy acts like Fates Warning and Crimson Glory (and I know that you at least enjoy the latter), you should definitely check out at least Operation Mindcrime. I think you´d enjoy the debut a lot too. Anything up and until Promised Land is worth a listen though, but I´d recommend those two before anything else knowing your tastes a bit. Tate used to be an incredible singer (probably one of the most talented 80s heavy metal singers Í´ve heard), and the rest of the band are very well playing too. Definitely a band you shouldn´t miss out on.

Sometimes there's a reason we never feel inclined to listen to something, but if you ever get to listening to them I think you may like their earlier albums. They kind of have a US power metal sound to them. Especially the debut EP that Thatcher mentioned.

I haven't even heard that much of both albums. Neither bands really interest me that much bu from what I heard Mindcrime was better. I especially don't listen to QR that much because they just bore me sometimes. I do enjoy their first EP which was very fun.
