I was wondering if Richard Cheese could be added to the site, he does lounge covers of pop, rock, and metal songs. Would this be something like Metalachi, where while not metal, may be of interest?

Amusing to be sure Unitron but I have big reservations about this. I supported the addition of Metalachi, but on reflection wish I hadn't. It's not the artist per se, just that there are a lot of these cross-genre cover artists out there and I'm not sure they should be on here. I know its inconsistent having Metalachi on here, but we could get swamped with these. There are enough original music and covers metal bands out there who need to be added or have their entries updated without being distracted by the likes of Richard Cheese.

I don't have a problem people discussing Mr Cheese and his ilk on here, but I personally wouldn't want us to go down this addition route. Others might of course feel different.

I just want to second what Chris has already said. There is so much other more important and more obvious stuff to be done on MMA without worrying about any oddities like this that may be of interest to a small portion of metalheads at best. And even further down the line I see little point in adding this particular artist. I guess a line has to be drawn somewhere.

Metalachi was a first case thing that we didn't entirely know what to do with. I remember being of two minds about them but ultimately allowed it but with this suggestion it seems my fears about them being approved have already started to come to pass; open floodgates for barely relevant artists.

I'm not one for wanting to go back on previous approvals, but I understand that this is an 'if this then why not that?' situation. That presents a problem for us, the admin team, as we don't want the database to be inconsistent on what we approve for MR. So since we approved Metalachi, we should also approve Richard Cheese. Expect I think doing this would be a very bad thing for MMA. We are trying to build a reputation as a metal site and I am of the opinion that adding Richard Cheese would adversely affect that reputation. It makes sense therefore to, instead of evaluating this, reconsider whether Metalachi should be here after all.

I see where you're coming from, I was actually expecting this to be rejected due to the fact that unlike Metalachi, he does covers of much more then just metal. I don't know of too many cross-genre artists myself, but I do agree that this could open the doors to some odd additions. I was hoping to review some of his work, but I can just do that on RYM.

While I may get a big laugh out of it, I know that not everyone will find it so funny. LOL

Thanks Khaliq. it's not the humour-quotient that's the issue though. As Adam says, we do need to make sure we balance our important inclusivity with some semblance of credibility as a metal site. Too many (any?) non-metal novelty acts will soon erode that.

You can of course continue to link videos and tracks on any artist of interest in the forums.

Well that's a pretty solid reason to say no, but the other point does stand, we may have made a mistake in allowing Metalachi here. We could have drawn the line at adding cover bands entirely like EM but I think acts like The Iron Maidens have a place here as well as non-metal cover acts like Maiden United, as that band happens to meet other MR standards (members of Threshold, Within Temptation and others I think). Non-metal cover bands with no other connection to the genre is actually pushing it though and having one here could create more problems that we initially thought.

I agree with what Chris says to a certain extent. It's not the humour of the content that's the main issue. It's just that Cheese is too ambiguous to be added onto the site. This, I know has happened to a lot of suggested bands, including mine.

It's not his real name, so that's probably intentional.
