^That was awesome! It's an equal mix of speedy power metal, epic heavy metal and all kinds of cheesy synths and electronics, just like their debut. It's insanely addictive and fun. Easily my best album of 2019, so far, 9 albums in.

This thing is the kind of ridiculously cheesy power metal, with really over the top vocals, that totally shouldn't work, and yet somehow it does! The first part was weak, and way worse than I remember their debut being, but I think this is their best I've heard, so far. It has a more spacey feel to it, which is cool.

Oh, yikes, I may have actually just heard a DT song I didn't like. It'll need more listens to be sure, but "Paralyzed" sure didn't sound good, and I almost always love all their music. This isn't looking good......

On my fourth listen now. It's good, as always, but I think it's my least favorite of their's since Systematic Chaos. It's definitely their heaviest in a while, though, so maybe people here will like it more. I think some songs are amazing, while others are a bit lacking, and I tend to prefer their more ambitious material, where this is very much "back to the basics."

how come you are listening to this already? Us mere mortals have only listened to the two singles Untethered Angel and Fall into Light, both surprisingly good for me (since The Astonishing was an unlistenable mess for me). Having listened to the two new songs I'm kinda hopeful.

I got a review copy last night. Same as with Beast in Black, and some others I've been posting (though I've had that one for longer than DT, obviously.) The two singles are two of my three favorites, but the album on the whole is good. Even "Paralyzed" is fine, it's just not at all what I want from the band. But, my expectations and hopes for the band are different from most people, because I loved The Astonishing, and tend to love their more adventurous, melodic and epic material, where this album is, as I said before, very "back to the basics" and it leans towards their darker, heavier side, which I like, but not as much as their lighter or more epic sides. So, it's very possible you'll like other songs just as much as the two singles, even though I found the album on the whole to not be as good as them.
And of course: Early contender for both album of the year and artwork of the year (though I think the latter may already be locked up, it's that amazing!)
