When it was released this album was quite a disappointment for me after Alice In Hell. It seemed like the band had regressed lyrically, and the heaviest, sharpest edges of the music had been knocked off. Haven't listened to it in years. Gotta say I am actually enjoying it so far though.
I've always preferred Never, Neverland to Alice in Hell, although both are great albums. While the third one 'Set the World on Fire' is not my favorite album from them, the song 'Knight Jumps Queen' is easily one of the best and catchiest songs I've ever heard. Been learning it on bass recently, love that opening bass-line.
If you don't listen to the vocals I suppose Knight Jumps Queen is probably a good song, but I just can't get past those godawful lyrics! Alice In Hell had that first album advantage of many years of development. Never, Neverland proved Jeff Waters could peel off great riffs easily, but lyrics were more of a challenge. If you look at the Annihilator demos over the years, they very often had vastly different lyrics to their finished forms.

The lyrics are kind of silly, but I guess for me it's just part of the charm.

Annihilator have never clicked with me. I have tried getting into them but I just can't.
The first song I heard was Human Insecticide, and while I like a lot of their other songs, nothing has ever compared to that song for me. Chasing the dragon, I suppose...
