probably the Black Metal band in the world with largest fan base, most sold albums and largest venues.
I bring out my darkside IN SORTE DIABOLI, boutht today and I find that to be a great reason to start an Appreciation topic I know they are not so popular among hardcore black metalists that they are sort of sellouts, but for guys like me I find their music to fullfil my apetite for dark, honting, atmospheric, symphonic, epic, synth and even piano laden black metal. even none metal heads seems to like Dimmu Borgir, they even become nr 1 on Norwegian topp 20s singel and album charts. I will recomend all to listen, bye, spotifie, download, see some of their fantastic music videos. I will recomend their latest In Sorte Diaboli Edited by Balthamel - 27 Mar 2010 at 11:49am |

They started out just like all the other black metal bands, and I think it's good that they have progressed their musical style to feature more symphonic and atmospheric elements. I wouln't call that "selling out", but merely improving what has already been done. If nothing else, they have some of the best lyrics I've ever seen or heard, for example, the words to "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" are phenominal. Edited by NJCat_11 - 27 Mar 2010 at 11:59am |

I know and I agee that they are nor "sell out" that is just the word of mouth in black metal cirkles not my opinion or view, I like them verry much, I boght my first album today (after I joyned MMA ) but I have listend to them extencivly in other methods (you tube, parties, with friends).
I like how they are all don't just do it 50% but 100% with their marketing, videos, album covers, they are sort of Arena Black Metal, the midle age theme and the focus they have on details make them stand out in a good way oh and I M Vortex is a fantastic singer. |

DM are more Symphonic/Melodic Black Metal (their vocals are not what I would call traditional Black Metal vocals and they do not create that wall of sonic noise I'd associate with the pure Black Metal of Immortal, Mayhem or Darkthrone). They have always been more melodic and less extreme than Emperor and less "Death Metal vs Iron Maiden" than Craddle of Filth. My favourite era would be Stormblst thriough to Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.

I own three of their albums, Spiritual Black Dimensions, In Sorte Diaboli and I don't remember the third album at the moment. They're good, though I never really understood why so many people love them.

I appreciate how hilariously awful their video clips are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joEAb_y7ZYA&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9cqKafnUrk Hahaha, how can anyone take this band seriously? nu-metal/black metal hybrid - had to happen some day right? Whatever floats your boat I guess. |

Just a thought: this is an APPRECIATION thread. Let's avoid what happened all too often on PA, with people who obviously disliked the band/artist in question disrupting the thread with their comments. Posts such as the one above mine might very well start a flame war - especially when the site has more members who don't all know each other.

apologies, all good natured fun. But in all honesty I really do appreciate their videoclips for how ridiculous and cheesy they are. Kinda the same reason anyone likes dragonfor... ok I'll stop. Edited by Beekeeper - 10 Apr 2010 at 10:50am |

It is a band that I enjoy. "For All Tid" with that dark sound has matured over the years. My favorite albums of them are: "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" and "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia." I have not heard the last two.
