Would like to suggest this band for MMA:
Orpheus - atmospheric rock with some progressive elements; based in the UK; see: www.myspace.com/orpheusofficial They had a debut album out in 2010 on Paradigms Recordings and a new EP announced this year. They should definitely be on here - great musicianship and doing something interesting. |

Thanks for the suggestion. What subgenre do you feel they'd fit best under? Prog metal? Post metal??

Atmospheric progressive rock/metal is how Orpheus are described in a few places including metal-archives - this seems the most appropriate description.
Here's a biography appropriate for use on here: Orpheus is an atmospheric rock project with progressive elements, formed in 2006 by vocalist/guitarist and main songwriter, James Young, and drummer and co-songwriter, Thomas Vallely. The lyrical themes revolve around nature and the ocean, exploration and history. The band released their debut album, 'Philosopher of the Sublime' in May 2010 through London based experimental label Paradigms Recordings. This introductory album saw the band use a soundtrack-like approach to their music in which influences as far flung as Dead Can Dance were evident. Most of the material on the debut album derives from the unreleased 2006 demo, and was recorded between April 2008 and March 2009. In early 2010 Orpheus began writing their follow-up release, 'The Mind's Exotica', which was recorded between August-October 2010. The style present on the EP shows a different approach than that on the debut album. A total of 10 musicians collaborated with Orpheus on this release. This year (2011) Orpheus are preparing their follow up, second album to be recorded in 2012. |
