Opeth rarely disappoint. In Cauda Venenum was their best since they ditched the growls imo. Be interesting to see how much the growls feature on the new album but I've a hunch it may be more in the Ghost Reveries style of prog metal.

Oldpeth is back!

I've actually quite enjoyed their recent works and as far as I'm concerned the last one counted as metal enough to be called a prog metal album but if this is indictive of what the whole album will sound like I'm beyond hyped.

Mikael Akerfeldt is actually growling again, and it still sounds as great as ever!

Presume this means we're getting a new one sooner than anticipated unless it's just a random, non-album single:

Hope there's more inbound soon though because this is killer! Arch Enemy always seems to be to be a band that does a really good album followed by one that's not so hot, and it's the turn of the not so hot one on that pattern, but this is really promising!

Also, new one from Lovebites, one of five new tracks from the upcoming Lovebites EP II.

One of those songs that for me was better on the second listen. Had that happen with their stuff sometimes before dispute them rapidly becoming one of my most played bands.

This is probably my least favourite so far, but Simone's solo album is shaping up to be a very eclectic affair: all three songs dropped so far are very different and if you thought having Mark Jansen on this track would make it sound like Epica, you'd be very wrong. Some strong industrial vibes here.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what they're trying to do with this album: It just sounds like a bunch of random songs that belong on different albums, with no coherency whatsoever, at least so far. I do like all the singles, though, so maybe the full album will make more sense, lol

I´ll give it a shot, but I can´t seem to enjoy Nile as much anymore after Dallas left. His vocals were unique.

Well this is unexpected, Blind Guardian has re-recorded Somewhere Far Beyond and it will be released in August as a limited three disc set (re-recorded album on CD1, live version of the whole album on CD2 and blu-ray as the third disc) as well as standard and digital editions.

They've done a music video for The Quest for Tanelorn:

And I'm not too impressed. I mean it's Blind Guardian so it sounds good but it doesn't sound as good as the original does. It feels more polished and slick but this actually makes the song lose something and I expect that's going to be true of the entire release if this is anything to judge by.

Love Human Nature, although it took a while to click. New one sounds great, looking forward to the album….

The  song is pretty good, but you can barely hear Floor for about half the chorus, because whoever did the mix must have sabotaged her, as usual, LOL

I think I read somewhere last night that this is supposed to be the track that most sounds like Ayreon or Epica, so maybe there's other sounds going to be heard yet. There's certainly a lot more electronic sounds in this than I'd typically expect from either.

To be honest with you, I thought Arjen's last album as Supersonic Revolution felt a bit too much by the numbers and apart from some seventies hard rock nods felt very much like an Ayreon album with one singer. Even the last Star One album felt more like Ayreon than Star One to me. I loved it, and of course Star One was never that far removed sound wise from Ayreon but I felt the moving away from the core four singers set-up just pushed Revel in Time that much closer to being Ayreon by another name.

He also has his new 'old' project Plan Nine out next week which sounds like it's going to be straight up hard rock/heavy metal which is a bit of a change of pace. But I haven't been wowed by a new Arjen album because it was different since The Gentle Storm. Golden Age of Music was the first Arjen album I didn't buy since I started listening to him.

Even after several listens I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it. Honestly, it feels less like her doing a solo porject, and more like Arjen just wrote an Ayreon track and threw heer voice over top of it. Obviously, it's good, but yeah, it doesn't really standout from his normal stuff, enough to be considered someone else's solo album, but I guess I'll wait and see what the whole album is like.

Simone Simons solo album and it's in collaboration with Arjen Lucassen? Sold.

Video doesn't premier on YouTube for another seven hours yet, but you can hear the song on Spotify already.
