I picked up both albums together some time back and at first I preferred Spectre, but Awaken the Guardian has since overtaken it.

I loved this on first listen, the riffs and vocals are great. John Arch reminds me a bit of a mix between Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson. Definitely going to be listening to the next album later.
