1975 entdeckte Norbert Hanewinkel seine Vorliebe für die Mixtour aus Rockmusik und mittelalterlichen Klängen. Von Kürenbergs "Ich zog mir einen Falken" markierte den Anfang einer Minnerock - Formation, aus der später die Gruppe "Wanderfalk" entstand. 1979 folgte nach emsiger Probearbeit und zahlreichen regionalen Auftritten der erste Plattenvertrag. Aus weiteren, ausgedehnten Tourneen und Produktionen ragte die vom WDR prämierte "Schmitz Backes Kompanie" heraus. Vom rheinisch - bergischen Lokalkolorit geprägt, gelang es einem guten Dutzend Musikern mittelalterliche Instrumente, sogar ganze Renaissance - Sätze, auf der 1983 erschienenen LP "Bergische Tänze" mit anderen Stilen zu kombinieren. Aber auch die zahlreichen Aktivitäten eines Norbert Hanewinkel konnten nicht verhindern, dass der Folk - Rock Boom der Siebzieger nicht anhielt. So fristeten viele Vertreter dieser Richtung nur noch ein Randdasein in der Musikszenen, was zwangsläufig zum Exodus der eher professionell orientierten Gruppen, so auch für Wanderfalk und die Schmitz Backes Kompanie, führte.
