UMUR
"Reign Supreme" is the 7th full-length studio album by US death metal act Dying Fetus. The album was released through Relapse Records in June 2012. Dying Fetus are widely considered to be among the elite when it comes to brutal technical death metal and "Reign Supreme" is yet another example why that is.
If you count technical playing as an asset Dying Fetus have always been among the top acts in extreme metal. Lightning fast riffing/shredding and even faster played drumming have always been trademarks in the band´s sound. The completely unintelligeble processed growling vocals paired with some slightly more intelligible growling vocals are also in place, so the sound on "Reign Supreme" doesn´t differ terribly much from what we´re used to from the band. With that said we´re of course still treated to high quality brutal technical death metal. Tempo changes, breaks, slammin´ parts, grinding parts and just general brutal mayhem. All delivered with precision sharp playing.
The band can maybe be criticized sligthly for being a bit one-dimensional (but that´s no surprise if you are familiar with the earlier material by the band) and the tracks aren´t easy to tell apart before you´ve listened to the album many times, but while "Reign Supreme" is playing my neck muscles work overtime. Damn those those breakdowns are heavy as fuck and groovy too. A 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating is deserved.
