Destruction is a German thrash metal band formed in Lörrach, Germany in 1982. They originally started under the name Knight of Demon. They soon changed their name to Destruction and released two demos. They are also known as one of the three big names of Teutonic thrash metal; the others are Kreator and Sodom.

They recorded their first demo in 1984 entitled "Bestial Invasion of Hell". The original line-up consisted of vocalist/bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, drummer Marc Reign and guitarist Mike Sifinger.

In 1999, a reunion has been consistently successful, with 2001's album "The Antichrist" being regarded by many as a modern thrash classic. The band followed up with "Metal Discharge" in 2003 and, most recently, "Inventor of Evil" in 2005 by Nuclear Blast Records.

It’s amazing to think that these guys are still at it, some thirty years since they started and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down yet. Destruction released their first demo back in ’84 with their debut album the following years and both Mike (guitars) and Schmier (bass/vocals) have been there from the beginning, although they were joined by Vaaver in 2010. This is powerful Teutonic Thrash in the vein of Kreator at al and a damn fine romp it is too. They have set out their stall and welcomed those who want an album to get rid of the dandruff and get a neck ache into the bargain. There is nothing dramatically new, and to be honest there isn’t anything here that makes the listener stand up and pay close attention, but it is incredibly tight and is exactly what one would expect from the band.

Is it going to gain them new hordes of followers? Probably not, but if you want metal that is honest and out there then you can’t go wrong with this. I have never seen these guys in concert, but I can imagine that the audience is a sweaty nasty mosh pit if this is anything to go by. Put it on and play it loud, it is definitely the only way to listen to it. www.nuclearblast.de

Metal is my fuel...

Genre: thrash f*ckin' metal

There's The Big Four and there's The Teutonic Three, and Destruction is one of the Teutonic Three (Sodom and Kreator being the two others). And just like German cars and German ham, German thrash metal is something you just cannot live without once you've tried it.

The music on this album is aggressive, technical but still simple enough that most people will be able to follow it, and full of energetic and classic riffs galore. It's simply good old German thrash: awesome! It certainly goes right to my old school heart.

The limited edition version also contains a really good cover version of Dio's "Stand Up and Shout".

There really isn't a lot to say about this album other than "If you, like me' are a fan of old school thrash metal, go and buy it"!

After the return of original singer/bassist Marcel Schirmer to Destruction's camp and released "All Hell Breaks Loose" in 2000, attention began to diverted to the band but not until they released "The Antichrist" in 2001 that fans really admitted that Destruction was back in form again. Beside a destructive classic thrash groove found inside, check out the blazing skull on the front sleeve, could have been the coolest cover of the year. With rave reviews everywhere and looks like a comeback masterpiece, "The Antichrist" in my opinion, falls hard on the imbalanced songs composition even though most of the songs are spectacular.

The first half of the album is much better than the second with the first four tracks are really a brilliant thrash definition. After the typical thrashcoustical intro, Destruction started abusing their instruments with flaming riffs on "Thrash Till Death" and Vormann's notable powerful drummings is clearly the song's highlight. "Nailed To The Cross" on the other hand, showed the vocal mastery of Schirmer, furiously screaming out its superb chorus. "Dictators of Cruelty" and "Bullets From Hell" displayed an aggressive rhythm and alternately pushed Schirmer's vocal and Vormann's brutal beats to the front. Sifringer's guitar actually launched some insane riffs, but most of the time, he sounded predictable and some riffs are quite decent.

Tracks like "Meet Your Destiny", "Godfather of Slander", or "Let Your Mind Rot" are examples of the weaker parts of "The Antichrist". His solos aren't very memorable and outstanding either. My most fave part of the second half is "Creations of The Underworld", I really think it has a beautiful riffage pattern and definitely a great track to love. The production is crisp and very good but to rate this as unbeatable is way too much, I guess 3.5 stars is deserved for a good release like this, especially to quench the thirst for long-time Destruction and Teutonic thrash fans.
