Based out of Portland Oregon,Degree Absolute are a project formed by multi-instrumentalist Aaron Bell (DEFYANCE).Bell tried bringing his original material into different bands with often disappointing results,and decided to form his own project,allowing himself total control over his musical concepts and vision. Bell then contacted bassist and Berklee College of Music graduate Dave Lindeman,who he had worked with in a local band called CHAOS GAME.Drummer Doug Beary,who had played with DEFYANCE for 15 years,completed the line-up. DEGREE ABSOLUTE released their self-titled debut on Sensory Records in 2006,and are soon to release the vinyl-only "Cleanse" 7".

The band is currently at work on their second full-length album.

While firmly rooted in progressive metal,DEGREE ABSOLUTE also explores the worlds of jazz and ambient music, as well as doom, thrash, and technical metal.

Highly recommended to all progressive metal fans.

DEGREE ABSOLUTE are from Portland,Oregon and released this their sole studio album in 2006.This is very technical and often really heavy.There are vocals which are well done.By the way they are a three piece band who create a lot of thunder.Some might find this too heavy and complex but man is this impressive."Confession" is a little different as it opens with lots of atmosphere as the bass plays.Keyboards a beat then reserved vocals join in.We do get some power when the guitar comes in with some heaviness then back to the more laid back music.Cool song.It's one of the few tracks without brutal riffs and an all out onslaught.Another song that is similar is the over 11 minute closer "Ergo Sum".I really like this album and highly recommend it.These guys are so skilled !
