Genocide is the 4th full-length studio album by Norwegian black metal act Bloodthorn. The album was released by Morningstar Records in 2006.
I understand that the earlier releases by the band included keyboards and a female singer and that they probably could be labelled symphonic black metal. Genocide is a more stripped down release though and what you get here is fast-paced war themed blasting blackened death metal. Raw and aggresssive with equal amounts of elements from black and death metal. No keyboards and no female singer. This is "in your face" and fiercely aggressive. The only flaw on this album is that the songs sound too much the same. They are hard to tell apart even after many spins. But the quality is high throughout and with a powerful and raw production in addition to the excellent musicianship Genocide is a great album. Had there been just a bit more variation between the songs I would have given a 4 star rating but as it is I´ll give a 3.5 star rating. Still I find Genocide highly recommendable.
