ZZ Top are an American rock band formed in Houston, Texas in 1969. Having the same members for 40 years (Billy Gibbons on lead vocals, Dusty Hill on bass, and Frank Beard on drums), they have become one of the small amount of major label groups to have maintained an unchanging lineup. As of 2014, the band has had a total album sale of 50 million copies.
ZZ Top has been held in high esteem by other musicians of their caliber and by critics. Music writer Cub Koda stated that "As genuine roots musicians , they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom [...] while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."
