Status Quo is a hard rock band from London, England.
The Psychedelic Years
The origins of Status Quo can be traced back to 1962, when London school friends Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster formed a band called The Paladins, or perhaps The Scorpions (the name is disputed), and the became The Spectres. The Spectres released three singles of psychedelic rock/pop in 1966 and 1967, before changing name again to The Traffic Jam, and released another single.
Rick Parfitt joined the band in 1967, and the band changed name again to The Status Quo. In 1968, the band released their breakthrough psychedelic single "Pictures of Matchstick Men” from the band’s debut album “Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo”. In 1969 the band had finally settled on the name Status Quo, and second album “Spare Parts” followed.
