SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY picture
See You Next Tuesday (stylised either SYNT or CUNT) is an experimental deathcore / mathcore / grindcore band from Bay City, Michigan. Formed in February 2004, they are currently signed to Ferret Records.

The band originally started out as a joke, but when the group found their early live performances went well, they began to take their music seriously. SYNT released two full-length studio albums through Ferret before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2009 due to financial problems and for personal reasons. They are understood to have plans to eventually end their hiatus at some point in the future.

The band’s name was an acronym taken from a phrase denoting the female genitalia (CU Next Tuesday). The band’s merchandise initially held the initials SYNT, later changed to CUNT. This theme was continued with their first EP, This Was A Tragedy (TWAT).

The thing with comedy grind is that Anal Cunt has basically fucked the genre for everyone else. No matter how biting the satire or relevant the social commentary, it all gets lumped in with Anal Cunt’s obnoxious and unfunny fuckwitticisms. Sure, See You Next Tuesday’s ‘Parasite’ contains a few AC-like offensive song titles, like “8 Dead, 9 If You Count The Fetus”, and “Before I Die I’m Gonna Fuck Me A Fish”, but that’s where all the similarities end.

Forget Seth Putnam and his merry bunch of morons. A far better starting point for getting a handle on See You Next Tuesday is The Locust involved in a head-on collision with Discordance Axis. As to be expected, most of the music is pretty chaotic. It’s not to cover up any lack of ability, because when a song accidentally occurs, it’s pretty fucking tight, it’s just that a bit more structure would be helpful, a la Nasum. ‘Parasite’ has all the usual ingredients- machinegun rhythms, screech/roar vocals, gutbusting guitars, sickening noise to set your teeth on edge, everything you need for a good old-fashioned grindathon. And like any good album of this style, it makes more sense with every subsequent listening. See You Next Tuesday aren’t scared to slow down either. “Paraphilia” wouldn’t sound out of place next to Today Is The Day.

Unfortunately, ‘Parasite’ lacks a lyric sheet, which would probably be hilarious, and is one of the drawbacks of incomprehensible vocals. The lyrics might be absolutely brilliant, but no-one can actually tell what the band is on about. Then again, being serenaded by Michael Bolton isn’t what this music is about.

All in all ‘Parasite’ is a solid effort. The average person will think it’s meaningless noise, but grind fans will know exactly what to expect. See You Next Tuesday show comedy grind can be intelligent and funny, and isn’t just for stupid (Anal) cunts.
