I was impressed with Airless and Nexx a while ago, so when I have the chance for a peek at another Spanish band, I'm excited like a kid getting his long-awaited candy. Early conclusion after couple of spins, I can safely say that Crushline's debut basically pays homage to classic bands like Harem Scarem, Bon Jovi, or Fair Warning, focusing on the catchy choruses, mandatory guitar solos, occasional scream, and a throw of ballad or two.

Songs like "Spirit To Live" or "Won't Miss Anything" are killer uptempo tunes with fantastic melodies and entertaining solos, but "Erase Yourself" or "Here Now" felt short behind, some say they’re simply fillers. JJ's vocal is unique, I was surprise to see him sounding like Dave Mustaine, the classic grandma's moan singing style by the Megadeth frontman is in his throat, and the typical non-English accent is obvious, so to have this type of vocal singing melodic rock isn't an everyday experience to me. "Best Forever" is a good ballad, unfortunately the vocal mix is a bit drowned in the background. The composition is predictable but satisfying enough. Other faves inside are "The Game You Like To Play", "Young Wild and Free", and "I Burn The Money".

Overall, a good effort of recreating the nostalgic atmosphere, nothing's really spectacular on the rhythm section, but I must admit, Linares’ guitar play is quite exceptional and somewhat enjoyable. Between average-and-good songwriting and definitely a significant improvement is necessary to bring this band to a higher level. A decent and okay start, I expect more of them in the future, and hopefully the sophomore release will be able to fulfill the dream.
