Helstar-Sins of the Past
After being on hiatus since 1995, Helstar returned in 2007 with a compilation of re-recorded songs from their previous albums. Usually re-recordings aren't really that special, but if you're a band that hasn't released anything since 1995, it's pretty special. Also included are two new studio recordings 'Tormentor' and 'Caress of the Dead' which would later be included on their next studio album a year later.
The newly recorded songs on this compilation are very well performed. There's a good roster of selections from all of their 80's classics.
The production is good, and maintains the rawness and energy of Helstar's music.
Overall, I would definitely pick this album up if you're new to Helstar. If you're wanting to have a listen to the classics and get an idea of their modern sound, this would make an excellent addition.
