"Deliver Me unto Pain" is the debut full-length studio album by US death metal act Banished. Or in fact it´s actually the 2nd full-length studio album by Baphomet. The band had, after releasing their debut full-length studio album "The Dead Shall Inherit" in 1992, been forced to change their name from Baphomet to Banished because the German thrash metal act Baphomet owned the rights to the name. But that wasn´t the only problem for the band as their label Deaf Records (sub-label to Peaceville Records) had lost their US distribution and therefore "Deliver Me unto Pain" wasn´t released in the US. I guess that qualifies them to be one of the most unlucky bands in the business. They would disband soon after the release of "Deliver Me unto Pain".
As for the actual music the music style is pretty much a continuation of the brutal US death metal style on "The Dead Shall Inherit (1992)". Brutal deep and almost unintelligible growls (although slightly more intelligible than the case was on the debut), blasting and mid-paced sections and unfortunately also the lack of a personal sound (which was also something that mared the debut). The sound production is pretty standard for the genre too and overall Banished isn´t a band that stands out much from the standards in US death metal from the early- to mid-nineties. The material is decent but never really great and I guess a 3 star (60%) rating is fair.
