See you in hell...

Genre: NWoBHM

Ace Lane's "See You in Heaven" is one of the run-of-the-mill releases of the NWoBHM movement - that is, it is solid hard rock, but nothing groundshaking.

Most of the tracks on this album are hard rock in the vein of AC/CD-meets-Thin Lizzy, and there are plenty of nice uplifting moments, to be sure, and tracks like "Cold Nights", "Don't Shine Your Light on Me", and "Always" are okay, while the closer "Jay" is brilliant. The title track is a ballad, and it's one of the better ballads I've heard - it's simple and not too bombastic or cheesy, and still they manage to squeeze in a 13/8 chorus in there, and, along with "Jay" it is my favorite track on this album. The remaining tracks are charming, I guess, but far from masterpieces, and I think that some, like "Girl Fever" are outright silly (althought the aforementioned song has a couple of good moments).

Lyrically, most of the songs are about partying and pulling birds. As was, and still is I guess, typical of a lot rock music, the lyrics are highly sexist, and I think I've grown too old to be impressed by that stuff.

As I said, this is a good album with some uplifting hardrock songs on it, but at the same time it is nothing special. I thik that fans of hard rock and glam metal as well as NWoBHM aficionados will appreciate this album for what it is - a bunch of songs about having fun... so, let the fun start.
