Acid King's basic sound involves sludgey, muddy baselines and guitar work from Peter Lucas and Lori S., with drummer Joey Osbourne (no relation to Ozzy!) kicking in mostly when they want to speed up and rock out a little. Over that Lori S. delivers snarling, defiant, punk-influenced vocals; the overall effect reminds me of Joan Jett at her angriest backed by Kyuss at their sludgiest. It's an interesting and original combination which gripped me at first (especially during the opener, "Evil Satan"), but it isn't quite varied enough to sustain my interest over the course of an entire album; by "Tank" I've usually had enough and go listen to something else. I'm glad I've got Zoroaster on my iPod because Acid King always raise a smile when they come on shuffle, but I just can't sit through the whole album in one go.
