"Habeas Corpus" is the debut full-length studio album by Dutch death metal act Absurd Universe. The album was released in October 2011 through Punishment 18 Records. To interested US readers "Habeas Corpus" is distributed by Sevared Records in the US.
The music on the album is a well played and well composed Gorefest (early) influenced type of death metal. No nonsense deep growling vocals, good rythmic variation and a sense for writing memorable death metal tracks. Add to that a well sounding production and you have a quality old school sounding death metal album. It´s so and so with original ideas, but who cares when the music is delivered with brutal conviction like it is on "Habeas Corpus". The 35:08 minutes, that the album lasts, are over before you know it, and I could easily give this one two spins in a row. In fact I want to.
As mentioned "Habeas Corpus" may not be the most original or groundbreaking death metal release out there, but it´s damn convincing and that also counts a great deal in my book. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
