I voted for Kreator's Renewal which I thought was a pretty good album. Thrash with some Industrial was different for the band but worked well to keep things interesting. Didn't like the cover art however.

I like Roots. It's the last Sepultura album that captures my interest.

Its been years since I last listened to "Roots" but I dont remember it as bad as you describe it. I can tell you that back when it came out, it was very well received.

I have to disagree, I count Roots among the worst albums I've ever heard. I've never heard Roorback but ever other album that followed is better IMO. Especially the most recent three.

...almost anything released after Roots are worse in my book. "Roots" has its moments.

Those two are generally the two worst received of the bunch.

I'm actually quite shocked to see Roots as the worst rated Sepultura album. Sure it's too long and not all brilliant, but still I think it's quite good an album. I listen to it more than Beneath the Remains.

Ι hate the vocals, hate the attitude of the vocals, think the music is mediocre and the whole package is destroyed because that album has the CF name on it.
On music merit alone, this is a 2.5 album IMO at best (not that I remember it well, just the impression it left me). As a CF album, it's a one-star, avoid-like-the-plague album. Maybe I'm biased!

I actually dont think that Celtic Frost track is so bad and I wouldnt really call it glam metal. Its kind of soft thrash or something like that. But they have a glam metal image.

Cold lake as a glam album is not so bad. The thing that most people are disturbed by is the genre-shift the band did.

Really? This is definitely the worst case of selling out I can remember. By none other than extreme metal and avant garde metal pioneers Celtic Frost.

I'll try and explain then! It's not a BAD album per se. It's a frightfully mediocre album however, its weakeness heightened by the fact that it followed the two Keeper albums. Add to that the fact that they removed the pumpkin from the logo and replaced it with a bubble (...) and wrapped the whole thing in that shitty "avant-garde" photograph for a cover (a girl holding a fish - so deep), the business suits with fried eggs on their eyes (seriously, what kind of a moron thought this was cool for Helloween? The band that had a goldmine in the pumpkin and fantasy themes goes artsy fartsy - brilliant)... it's no wonder the vast majority thought this was shit. It's not really shit. It's just shit compared to the Keepers. Then again, they outdid themselves with Chameleon. Pop/rock. It's not bad pop/rock mind you. I'd even go as far to call it overall a better album than Pink Bubbles, as far as songwriting goes. But let me tell you, I was so pissed with them it took me years to even bother checking them out again (around Time of the Oath actually). Never accepted Deris as a good replacement either. His voice was perfect for Pink Cream 69, that type of band, hard rock. As a replacement for Kiske... No. |

The Elder by Kiss could also fit this category.
