I thought for sure I hadn't heard this one before, but I instantly recognized the title track (it's awesome, of course) so maybe I was wrong. |
I recognized a few other tracks as well, so I probably had heard the whole album before, after all. Either way, it's awesome and I think it's the album where they did the best job of mixing tempos, something they've tried on later albums, but failed big time compared to this. Right up there with Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss, as being way ahead of all other Slayer albums I've heard so far.
This one I know I've heard before, and liked it.

This is apparently another one of their best, so I'm excited to hear it. Probably should have done another Bush album first, but eh, this was what I felt like putting on. On the first track and I can already say I love the sound production on it: Much crisper and more powerful than State of Euphoria, which was the only negative thing I noticed on that album.

This one ended up being awesome, as expected. Up there with Among the Living as my favorite so far. It may have an edge due to the production and the incredible opener, but I'd have to hear both albums a few more times to decide which I prefer.
An obvious classic. Nothing else needs to be said.
Up next: Two albums I expect to suck. At least after that, the rest of the run should be mostly good. Hoping to have it done by the end of the first week of January, because after that I'll be focused on 2016 albums for a while.
Two songs in and it definitely feels like the start of the commercial sound they had on the next few albums, but both songs so far have been pretty good, actually.
Slayer - Christ Illusion This one looks like it could be a total disaster, based on the name and when it was released relevant to their discography.

Cryptic Writings ended up being one of those albums that didn't have any big standouts, but it was pretty solid all around. Certainly better than their next few albums. Christ Illusion actually started off great, sorta like a watered down Reign in Blood, but as the album went on the songs got slower, allowing the childish and insufferably bad lyrics to take full force, and it all went downhill. Definitely better than God Hates Us All, though.
Overkill - Killbox 13
Awesome, insanely addictive thrash, as always. These guys never seem to disappoint.
