1997 "Goat Horns" by Nokturnal Mortum. (Ukrainian Black Metal) 1998 "The Sound of Perseverance" by Death. (American Death Metal) 1999 "Still Life" by Opeth. (Swedish Progressive Metal) 2000 "Brave New World" by Iron Maiden. (British Heavy Metal) 2001 "Blackwater Park" by Opeth. (Swedish Progressive Metal) 2002 "Deliverance" by Opeth. (Swedish Progressive Metal) 2003 "Noontide" by Fanisk. (American Black Metal) 2004 "Far From the Madding Crowd" by Wuthering Heights. (Danish Power Metal) 2005 "Weltanschauung/Мировоззрение" by Nokturnal Mortum. (Ukrainian Black Metal) 2006 "Inhuman Rampage" by DragonForce. (British Power Metal) 2007 "To the Nameless Dead" by Primordial. (Irish Folk Metal) 2008 "Beyond the Northern Winds" by SIG:AR:TYR. (Canadian Folk Metal) 2009 "Голос Сталі" by Nokturnal Mortum. (American Progressive Metal) Granted, this list was a lot easier for me to make, as I'm younger than the majority of the other members here, but I'd still be curious to see what everyone else's picks would be.

This is a terrific thread. I wish that metal was still my main squeeze so I could be more convincing with my choices.
1993: Don't really have one, I guess I could go with Individual Thought Patterns but it's been FOREVER since I've actually listened to it, and despite its greatness I wouldn't consider it one of my current or all-time favorites. 1994: 1995: 1996: 1997: 1998: 1999: 2000: ...I guess. 2001: 2002: Don't have one for this year either. Not one of metal's better years IMO, although that's just taste. 2003: 2004: 2005: 2006: 2007: This one took some thinking because I don't actually own this album (yet), but it was between this and a Porcupine Tree album which I don't consider to be metal...then again, I don't think Deadwing is metal either, but I didn't have anything else for 2005, so whatever. 2008: Nada. 2009: 2010: 2011: 2012: Can't say yet. Not a very diverse list, but it just seems like all of my favorite metal albums came out on overlapping years. Edited by Diogenes - 04 Aug 2012 at 12:08am |

Cool idea for a thread. I'll throw a list together soon, but there are some years where I'm not that familiar with metal. For example, in my birth year (1985), the only metal album I have on my computer is Megadeth's Killing Is My Business, so I might have a few defaults like that on the list.
