Metallica unreleased song off Death Magnetic, they played it live last night and are supposedly releasing it on iTunes next week. Possibly as a PR move after negative Lulu reviews... Edited by Stooge - 12 Dec 2011 at 8:17am |

I can tell why it wasn't put on the album, because aside from the riff, not much stands out. I definitely agree that all of the crap Lulu is getting is probably weighing on James and Lars a bit more than they expected, but is selling a track like this that couldn't even make it onto Death Magnetic really going to help things?

This is most certainly not a Lulu backlash thing, but something special to celebrate 30 years as a band. I think tonight is the second of the big anniversary shows, wonder what they come up with now. Yesterday they played this song and had for example Jason, Apocalyptica, John Marshall, Biff from Saxon and guys from Diamond Head come to the stage. A metclubber even got to play a song with them.
BTW, how about editing the topic title to for example "New Metallica track unveiled"?

I never get excited about songs that haven't made it to one of the albums... All those 'unreleased' songs. They were just not good enough for releasing at the time.

Another new song: http://geekfurious.blogspot.com/2011/12/metallica-new-song-just-bullet-away.html
I think I remember there were four complete tracks left over from DM sessions, seems like they could play one of them in each anniversary show now.

From Dave Mustaine's Facebook page:
Breaking news!! After almost three decades, Dave Mustaine will be playing with Metallica again on stage tonight in San Francisco for Metallica's fourth and final intimate sold out show at the Fillmore as part of the week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band. Dave will be playing five songs with Metallica; "Hit The Lights", "Metal Militia", "Phantom Lord", "Jump In the Fire", and "Seek And Destroy". News?

I edited the title.
That's cool news. I hope both Dave and James/Lars have finally that past stuff behind them. Not sure about Lars, but James and Dave have definitely mellowed with age in the past five or so years.

Supposedly the anniversary shows will be released in some form, which will be incredibly cool. Possibly DVD, at least judging by this picture:
Livemetallica.com download coming soon, guess I'm going to have to get the whole thing. Here are all the setlists from the shows, notice how not one track is repeated except Seek & Destroy: 5th December 7th December 9th December 10th December |
